UPDATE: Thunderstorm slams Yuma

A powerful thunderstorm slams into Yuma bringing high water, power outages, and widespread reports of minor damage.

Heavy rain began around seven Monday night. The downpour reduced visibility for drivers, and flooded many streets.

The power went out shortly after the rain began. Arizona Public Service reported more than 14,000 customers were affected at the peak of the storm. As of Tuesday morning there were still 554 customers without power. APS expects to have power restored to those area Tuesday afternoon.

APS is offering reimbursement for customers tha purchase up to 40 pounds of wet bagged ice or 20 pounds of dry ice. They ask that you send receipts to the following address:

At this point we have no reports of injuries associated with the storm.

We do have plenty of reports of trees down and other minor damage.
