Grijalva and colleagues demand investigation into Border troops
Arizona Representative Raul Grijalva leads 33 of his house colleagues in demanding an investigation into the deployment of U.S. troops to the border.
In a letter to the Department of Defense’s Principal Inspector, Grijalva and a group of Congressional Democrats question President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy federal troops to the Mexican border.
Lawmakers point out more than 7,000 member of the military are currently stationed along the border, including 12-hundred just deployed in August.
The letter questions the legality of their deployment. It says:
” The military should have no role in enforcing domestic law, and this troop deployment is another scare tactic by President Trump to create a crisis and traumatize asylum-seeking children and their families. The Trump Administration needs to answer these fundamental legal questions and halt their efforts to further militarize our border communities. ”
33 members of the House of Representatives signed off on the letter demanding an inquiry. All were Democratic.
No comment on the letter yet from the White House.
