Police working to identity burnt body

El Centro Police are looking for any information on a victim found burnt beyond recognition on Tuesday morning near railroad tracks on the east side of the city.

Detective Jeff Malcomb said, ” The first and foremost, we need to figure out who the victim is. That’s the best place for us to start the investigation, so we can start moving forward to figure out what happened. ”

The age and ethnicity of the victim is unknown at this time. ” Unfortunately, no, due to the condition of the body. Unfortunately, it was burnt to the point where it’s making identification very difficult, ” Malcomb said.

The gruesome discovery was made after a witness reported a can on fire near Second Street and Heil . El Centro Fire Department put the fire out. ” Once they responded, they extinguished the fire. As they were doing so they discovered a burnt body inside the trash can, ” Malcomb said.

Police are looking for any leads and would appreciate the public’s help. ” About anything that may have happened yesterday morning. To provide us with that information so we can follow up on it. Any detail, however minute they think it is, how unimportant or how unrelated they think it is, it could be possibly something that is useful to us, ” Malcomb said.

The investigation is being treated as a possible homicide. Police encourage anyone with information regarding the burnt body that was found in this area to please contact them.
