Brightside: Local teacher encourages students to change the world

Woodard Jr High School (WJHS) is creating a movement in the Yuma community by trying to make the world feel a little less lonely one shirt at a time.

After Ms. Nash read an article in her class about a boy in Georgia, who wanted to wear a shirt that said “I will be your friend” to school, several students at WJHS wanted to start the movement at their school.

The shirts are said to give students a sense of belonging.

It has proved to be useful for one student, Ryan Miller, who said, “the shirt put me out more, so I can make more friends.”

The school community doesn’t want the movement to stay within the walls of their school, but every other school out there. Support has poured in from companies like Z Trends who donated shirts and screen printing for the shirts for Ms. Nash to hand out to students who want them.

Even top school officials have joined the movement as well.

Ms. Nash hopes that she can continue to provide a shirt to any student at the school or even in the community who is willing to wear it to spread the message that they will be a friend to anyone in need.

If you’d like to help or donate to the movement, you can contact Ms. Nash at Woodard Jr High School by calling 928-502-7200.
