“National Adoption Weekend” helps shelter animals find loving homes

Imperial Valley residents who were looking for a new furry friend participated in PetSmart’s, ” National Adoption Weekend. ”

Officials from the Humane Society of Imperial County( HSIC ) and the Too Cute Kitten Rescue, hope to put animals in a loving home with special deals and prices for this weekend’s event.

Jonna Fowlkes , volunteer at HSIC , said the event also alleviated overpopulation at the local animal shelter.

” All the different cities that bring all the animals into us. So this makes room for the animals that are picked up. That are strays or have been relinquished to those cities. By getting these ones into home it makes more space for us to have. And more space for the animals in the shelter at this point. ”

Fowlkes said over 25 animals were adopted this weekend.
