Border Patrol stops sex offender from re-entering U.S.
U.S. Border Patrol agents bust some human smugglers and stop a convicted sex offender from re-entering the country at the same time.
It happened Saturday night near Tecate , California.
Agents say it started when they noticed a suspicious car on State Route 94. The late model Chevy Cruze sped up and tried to get away, but an on-coming car blocked their escape.
The Border Patrol says five people were in the car.
The driver and front-seat passenger were both American citizens.
The three backseat passengers all claimed to be from Mexico, and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.
Processing revealed one of those men was actually a convicted sex offender from El Salvador who’d been previously deported.
The driver and front passenger now face federal human trafficking charges.
The El Salvadoran man faces federal charges for criminal re-entry.
