Military Matters: Honoring Sgt. Mark Herbst

For today’s Military Matters, we honor Sgt. Mark Herbst .

Sgt. Herbst , has been serving in the military for 3 and a half years.

Sgt. Herbst is a Marine Corps Field Radio Operator with Marine Air Control Squadron 1 where he holds the billet of Assistant Data Chief.

His primary responsibility is to grant and revoke access to the Secret Internet Protocol Router ( SIPR ) network.

He is also the Color Sergeant for MACS-1.

He joined the Marine Corps to follow a family tradition of military service, and is the first Marine in his family, saying ” I wanted to serve my country and do something meaningful. ”

MCAS Yuma is his first duty station, and he plans on re-enlisting when his current contract expires.

During his free time, he enjoys working out at the gym, and hunting.

He also plays rugby for the Yuma Sidewinders.
