YPD warns about charity scams in the wake of Hurricane Dorian

As Hurricane Dorian is continuing to rip through various states on the east coast, several organizations are beginning to set funding donations through websites to help those in need who have lost homes or in some cases’ everything.

That’s why the Yuma Police Department (YPD), is urging residents in the community to pay attention to where your money is being allocated to.

“We know that people are going to want to start contributing to help the people who’ve lost homes, if you’re going to contribute make sure the page is vetted whether it be the Red Cross or some hurricane donation, but look that place up, make sure it’s a real page simple as making sure it’s spelled correctly,” said Sgt. Lori Franklin, with the Yuma Police Department.
