Air Force Investigates Rocket Misfire

The Air Force is investigating the accidental firing of a rocket during a training mission near Tucson.

Air Force Times reports it happened Thursday morning in the Jackal Military Operations Area. That’s about 60-miles northeast of Tucson.

Officials at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base say an A-10C Thunderbolt accidentally launched a white phosphorous projectile into the desert. The rocket produces smoke to hide troops and identify targets.

The incident didn’t hurt anyone or cause any property damage or fire.
