Quintero murder trial now in hands of the jury
The Quintero murder trial is coming to an end as State of Arizona prosecutors and Oscar Quintero’s defense team presented their closing arguments to the jury.
The jury will now deliberate upon a verdict.
The State of Arizona prosecutor’s closing arguments revolved around the argument that the shooting was premeditated.
Prosecutors asked the jury to find Quintero guilty on all the following charges:
First Degree murder First Degree attempted murder Aggravated assault Aggravated assault Aggravated assault Domestic Violence
They argued the defendant was “stalking” the victims before he went in for the kill, even re-showing surveillance footage that showed Quintero hours before the shooting at the Family Dollar store, where the victim Clarissa Medina left her car at that night.
“The defendant executed [Medina],” said Meghan Gallagher, Deputy county attorney.
Prosecutors detailed the lengthy timeline of events that led up to the shooting beginning the day the couple decided to end their relationship and argued Quintero was “boiling anger for months” about the situation.
Gallagher even presented the video journal shown as evidence while Quintero was on the stand Wednesday and argued Quintero knew the relationship was over.
The defense then presented their closing argument that Quintero did not plan to kill anyone making the crime not premeditated.
Eugene Marquez, Quintero’s attorney, explained to the jury that it is already clear that Quintero pulled the trigger and that the issue lies in what to it.
Marquez claimed the shooting was a heat of passion crime and asked the jury if they are going to convict Quintero to convict him of the correct charges, including Second Degree Murder and Second Degree attempted murder.
“He blanked out, he reacted,” argued Marquez as he explained this shooting was a crime of passion.
