Two U.S. citizens arrested for smuggling

Two Tucson residents were apprehended by Border Patrol Agents during separate incidents in the Yuma County.

On Wednesday morning agents at the Welton Station sent a gold 2001 Ford Explorer to secondary inspection after a K9 alerted the vehicle. Once agents searched the vehicle they say they found an anomaly in the gas tank. After further investigation, agents say they found 55 packages of meth hidden inside the gas tank.

The meth weighed approximately 59-pounds and had an estimated street value of $135,700.

In Dome Valley, northeast of Yuma, agents observed a blue 2002 Dodge Durango. Agents say they performed a vehicle stop and discovered a Tucson U.S. citizen was transporting four undocumented immigrants from Mexico.

Border Patrol Agents say Dome Valley is a common route used by smuggling organizations to attempt to evade apprehension.
