Local mom fighting rare lung cancer

Lily Smith, 29, was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer called sinal nasal carcinoma in 2017. It has now turned into stage 4 metastatic lung cancer.

The cancer spread to her left eye and her left jaw had to be removed.

With her fight to survive getting tougher, Lily says her family is holding out hope she’ll survive but with time slipping away….she wants to create as many memories with them as possible.

” They are trying really hard to support me and uplift me. I have a really good support system. It’s just hard for them. It’s difficult for my siblings, ” said Lily Smith. ” It’s heartbreaking for them to hear that their little sister has to go on hospice. I refuse to let it get to me. ”

However, doctors gave Lily a glimmer of hope.

” The doctors say there is nothing more they can do. But there is hope. ” said Smith. ” There are patients that have lived for years with this type of cancer. When he told me that…that just uplifted me. ”

Lily and her family cannot afford a trip to Disneyland. It’s a trip they’ve always talked about taking now they want to find a way to make that dream a reality. The family includes Liliana, her boyfriend and 5 children ranging in ages from 7 to 14.

Close friend Maria Alman-Doten was so touched by Lily’s courage she started a fundraising page hoping to raise enough money for Lily to live her dream with her family at Disneyland in California. You can donate to Lily’s Dream at https://www.facebook.com/donate/527018808038111/10216636804805108/.
