Locals collect donations for trailer fire victims
Residents are still reeling over the devastating fire that burned down an entire trailer park last Thursday.
The fire on 9th Street and 20th Avenue tore through 10 homes and left several families with nothing.
While the disaster is tragic, community members like Jennifer Blackwell and Theresa Straub are providing a glimmer of hope by collecting donated items for the families in need.
All donations of clothing, non-perishable food items, and school supplies are welcome. They are especially looking for children’s clothing and men’s clothing size medium to large. Basic toiletries like toothpaste, bath towels and shampoo are also needed.
“We decided time and time again that the Yuma community steps up, ” said Straub . ” It feels good to know that when a Yuman is in need, the community actually steps up and helps.”
They will be accepting donations Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 949 South Avenue B.
