Multiple residences destroyed by fire

Firefighters have put out the fires and are now checking the area for hot spots after multiple homes caught on fire at 9th Street and 20th Avenue Thursday.

Nine trailers and a house were engulfed by a fire that residents say began around 1 p.m. at 9th Street and 20th Avenue Thursday.

Rural Metro Fire Department and Yuma County Sheriff’s Office are currently at the scene. The Yuma Fire Department and Marine Corps Air Station Fire Department were requested for aid.

According to Rural Metro Fire Department, fire investigators are at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities are recommending residents nearby to return to their homes to avoid inhaling any smoke in the area.

For those displaced, they are advised to visit Refinery Church located at 2255 W 32nd Street.
