Local teenager beats rare bone cancer

Team Kate is singing its praises at Phoenix Children’s hospital. Kate Campa , 15, is a warrior taking on cancer and beating it. She was able to ring the bell after 14 cycles of chemotherapy.

“I think I’ve inspired other people, cancer has definitely taken a toll on my body, ” said Campa . ” I think I’ve inspired adults with cancer, even my parents as well.”

Kate was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer last Christmas. Shocked and terrified, the 15-year-old spent the holidays fighting for her life.

She even had to miss her high school winter formal dance. Multiple rounds of chemo and other treatment were tough to deal with, but Kate took it on with a smile and faith.

Today she’s thrilled to say goodbye to cancer and hello to freedom and hope is something she’s inspired in many people.

Kate’s story of triumph went viral on social media, landing her a story in People magazine with Olivia Newton-John on Dancers Against Cancer.

Actress and singer Paula Abdul even mailed the 15-year-old cancer survivor a personal message.

And course, the Yuma community provided endless support for Kate.

” Living in Yuma has been amazing. They prayed for us. They held fundraisers, ” said Campa . ” They did so much for my family. ”

Kate is now eager to get back to high school as a sophomore. She also plans to resume her love of competitive dance and wants to get back to dabbling in makeup and fashion.
