Body cam footage shown in day 3 of Quintero trial
UPDATE (5:34 p.m.)
State prosecutors called the Somerton-Cocopah Fire Department’s acting captain on the night of January 3, 2018 to stand where he detailed his part in the arrest of Quintero.
The acting captain claimed the firefighter who opened the kitchen door for Quintero got his attention and told him there was a civilian asking to speak to police officers.
He claimed Quintero wanted to talk about what happened at the Somerton Valley Center, the site of the deadly shooting that happened hours before.
The acting captain described Quintero’s demeanor as scared and concerned while waiting for law enforcement. He added he went to another room and called dispatch. That is when he asked the firefighter for Quintero’s name and another firefighter alerted him that Quintero was the suspect officers were looking for.
SPD ultimately arrested Quintero when he asked to go to the bathroom.
Officers and a forensic technician also took the stand detailing the crime scene.
UPDATE (10:11 a.m.)
A Somerton-Cocopah firefighter took the stand to explain the moment he said Quintero approached the fire department’s kitchen door asking to speak to a police officer.
The firefighter/paramedic claimed he directed Quintero to the lobby to request the police department, but an anxious Quintero told him “it was too risky.”
The witness described calling for his acting captain who then asked for Quintero’s name.
While waiting for SPD to pick up Quintero, the alleged murderer asked for a glass of water and to use to the bathroom.
The defense asked how many times Quintero asked for SPD and the firefighter answered more than twice, also telling the defense attorney that he saw a bulge in Quintero’s pants and asked if he had anything that could hurt him or anyone else.
