Walgreens is closing 200 stores in the U.S.
Walgreens plans to close approximately 200 stores in the U.S., the company announced on Tuesday.
According to USA Today, the move to close stores follows “a review of the real estate footprint in the United States.”
Phil Caruso, a Walgreens spokesman said Walgreens does not plan to release a list of the closing locations.
“As previously announced, we are undertaking a transformational cost management program to accelerate the ongoing transformation of our business, enable investments in key areas and to become a more efficient enterprise,” Caruso said. “As part of this effort, we plan to close approximately 200 stores in the U.S.”
USA Today reports that eight months into 2019 there have already been 29% more store closings announced than in all of 2018.
CVS closed 46 locations earlier this year, according to USA Today.
