The Yuma Police Department ( YPD ) said officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, a 2011 Dodge Durango, but the driver fled from authorities. An officer later came upon a traffic collision in the 1800 block of South 3rd Avenue. The stolen vehicle had collided with a 2002 Toyota Sienna and fled again.

YPD eventually located the stolen vehicle at 3rd Avenue and 20th Street. The driver, who fled the scene, was soon located and taken into custody.

Police said the driver, who the suspect collided, with reported minor injuries.

The incident is under investigation by a Yuma Police detective, who is assigned to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Theft Task Force.

” A stolen vehicle is either driven while committing crimes or has a connection to other more serious crimes. This is a great example of the partnership between local and state law enforcement, who worked together and pool resources to fight crime, ” said Arizona Theft Task Force ( VTTF ) Captain Paul Etnire .

The VTTF consists of city, county, and state law enforcement agencies working together in a concerted effort to combat and deter vehicle theft through the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of individuals and criminal organizations that profit from the theft of motor vehicles and related crimes associated with motor-vehicle theft.
