Excessive Heat Warning in effect for Gila Bend and Yuma
An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for south-central and southwest Arizona including Gila Bend and Yuma until 8 p.m. this evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). An excessive heat warning means that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, will occur. According to NWS, some of the impacts are increasing in heat-related illnesses that include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, headaches, and vomiting. Being exposed to high temperatures for long periods of time or engaging in vigorous activities in high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke especially if you are dehydrated. Heatstroke can be deadly. Treat as an emergency and call 911. Public cooling shelters are available in some areas. Consult County officials for more details.
