Suspects allegedly crash into El Centro store and steal ATM
Two suspects are wanted for crashing into a market and stealing an ATM that was inside the store over the weekend.
The El Centro Police Department ( ECPD ) responded to an alarm call at a store on the 600 block of Wake Avenue in El Centro early Sunday morning.
“It appeared there was something dragged from the location, and it was suspected immediately that it was probably the ATM,” said Commander Aaron Reel, ECPD .
Later that day ECPD found an abandoned U-Haul in an alley on Ocotillo Drive, that had been reported stolen.
Inside the truck was a dismantled ATM, the same one dragged out of the store.
“The truck itself was used to ram the front door of the location on Wake Avenue, so it was driven into the actual business,” said Commander Reel.
“The business owner was able to arrive at the location, access the television footage, and it shows two suspects breaking the outside key drop box at the U-Haul location and that is the footage we have of them stealing the vehicle,” said Commander Reel.
The truck was stolen from the U-Haul facility located on Fourth Street in El Centro.
The owner says he deals with these issues regularly, from stolen propane tanks to homeless people sleeping in storage units.
He says, fortunately the property has multiple security cameras.
The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the El Centro Police Department Investigations Division (760) 337-4525
