Border Patrol checkpoint cracks down on human smuggling
Agents at the Yuma Sector Border Patrol said Yuma is one of the busiest immigration checkpoints in the state of Arizona. Agents have cracked down human smuggling cases, where the majority of them tend to be Mexican nationals being smuggled by trafficking organizations.
Roughly around 10,000 cars travel through the interstate I-8 immigration checkpoint. Especially narcotics such as methamphetamine, which is one of the deadliest drugs that cross through the checkpoint, according to Agent Jose Garibay.
During the hike of the humanitarian crisis, the agency had to close down its checkpoints to allocate the agents to the humanitarian mission.
