Scam Alert: Beware of solicitor falsely selling JCPenney fragrances
It might not smell like a scam, but a local retailer said crooks are hoping your love for a nice fragrance will turn into their payday.
According to JCPenney at the Yuma Palms Shopping Center, a new scam has Yuma residents running to their store and calling about fake coupons after buying perfume from door-to-door salespeople.
An alleged solicitor is selling perfumes at unbelievable discounted prices.
When a victim buys the perfume, they are also given a coupon for other discounts.
It’s not until the victim goes to JCPenney to try to use the coupon that they realize they’ve been scammed.
Yuma Palms JCPenney Assistant Manager, Mark Baca, said, ” They were soliciting at 70% off the fragrances, we never do that. We never solicit anything door-to-door at JCPenney. ”
Although the solicitor is said to be wearing a JCPenney T-shirt, Baca said the scammer is in no way connected to the company.
A few things to remember, coupons are only available in-store or on JCPenney’s website.
Also, residents should never test or smell fragrances from a solicitor.
If you see any suspicious activity or soliciting in your neighborhood, please report it to your local law enforcement.
