YUHSD welcomes new teachers and announces open house dates

Yuma Union High School District ( YUHSD ) welcomes 62 new teachers and announces open houses for the upcoming school year.

The welcoming of 62 new teachers happened Wednesday and Thursday at the district office during an onboarding orientation.

YUHSD says all the teachers, instructional coaches, and principals from all six schools in the district boarded buses and toured Yuma County. The tour was said to serve as an opportunity for everyone to see all the campuses, including the future Somerton High School site, and learn about the history of local agriculture.

AEA Federal Credit Union provided lunch, and introduced a new program, Sunnysiders , which will provide networking opportunities for teachers and showcase leisure opportunities in Yuma.

“This is one of the best experiences I’ve had starting at a district,” said new Yuma High School Chemistry teacher Mario Martinez. ” It was very interactive, very friendly. I felt very welcome here. For me, I’ve taught for 30 years with another district, and nothing like this has ever happened with new teachers. So, I think it’s very powerful that you do this with them. You get introduced to, not only the teachers who are new, but to the Yuma community as a whole. ”

On Thursday teachers were able to see their classroom for the first time.

At YUHSD open houses, parents are able to meet each of their student’s teachers, learn about extracurricular activities on campus, and can receive information about other campus and district programs.

You can find a list of dates and times for each campus below.
