Yuma BP agents allegedly assaulted in two separate incidents
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working near Yuma and San Luis were allegedly assaulted by two undocumented immigrants in two separate incidents last week.
According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents, on July 14 remote camera operators observed two undocumented immigrants running north from the International Boundary Wall at Avenue 3 1/2 E.
A Yuma Station agent responded and located one of the undocumented immigrants hiding behind a bush. The 31-year-old Mexican national was given verbal commands in English and Spanish to lie on the ground but the man disobeyed the commands and stood up n a fighting stance. As the agent attempted to handcuff the man, he elbowed the agent in the ribcage. The agent was able to get physical control of the man and place him under arrest. The second individual returned to Mexico, agents said.
On July 16 a group of undocumented immigrants allegedly crossed into the United States near County 9th Street and Levee Road. An agent apprehended one of the individuals, and as he escorted him to the vehicle the man began to resist. Agents said the man elbowed the agent in the forehead and additional agents responded to the area and assisted in placing the resistant individual in handcuffs.
Agents said the 22-year-old Honduran national was arrested for assault on a federal officer and immigration violations. Three additional undocumented immigrants were also arrested nearby and charged with immigration violations.
