Ten-year anniversary of border patrol agent’s death

Tuesday marks the ten-year anniversary of the death of Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas .

Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas was shot and killed while on patrol near Campo, Calif., at approximately 9:15 pm on July 23, 2009. El Centro Sector Border Patrol said he was shot multiple times in an ambush after exiting his patrol vehicle on the Shockey Truck Trail along the border.

The three men who crossed into the United States set up an ambush and lured Agent Rosas out of his vehicle. He was shot multiple times before the men robbed him of his gear bag, handcuffs, firearm, and night vision goggles.

Responding agents located him suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Rosas had served with the Border Patrol for three years. Robert also has a special connection with the El Centro Police Department as he was a Reserve Police prior to being picked up by the Border Patrol. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
