CPD helping homeless people at park find shelter

The Calexico Police Department (CPD) is working with local agencies to help the homeless people living at Rockwood Plaza Park.

“Our local homeless population we’ve seen an increase in the city of Calexico,” said Sergeant Armando Orozco, CPD.

In the past months, many homeless people have taken shelter at Rockwood Plaza Park and have set up camp at the park.

Orozco says CPD is trying to take a different approach to solve the root of the problem with the homeless people living at the park.

CPD has partnered with local agencies that are willing to help.

“If the person has a drug addiction, we’re getting social services to come help if they have a mental health issue we’re talking to mental health agencies,” said Orozco.

For several weeks CPD has been notifying homeless living at the park that they will need to evacuate the park.

CPD said they are working with local shelters to ensure there is a bed for each homeless.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Shelter for men said they have at least 25 beds available right now.
