Tips to protect yourself from mosquitoes this summer

West Nile virus numbers are up in Arizona this summer. The Imperial County Public Health Department confirmed an Imperial County resident died due to complications from West Nile virus last week.

According to the World Health Organization, West Nile virus can cause a fatal neurological disease in humans.

However, approximately 80% of people who are infected will not show any symptoms.

Sun City Pest Control has provided the following tips to protect yourself from mosquitoes this summer:

-Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property that can support mosquito breeding, including pools that are not properly filtered.

-Make sure that doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Make sure your doors and screens don’t have holes.

-Wear loose-fitting, light-colored, long-sleeved shirts and pants

-Limit time outdoors during dawn and early evening.

-Remember to contact your local pest control if there is a significant mosquito problem where you live or work.
