ECPD testing out new uniform option

The El Centro Police Department ( ECPD ) is currently in the testing phase of a new uniform option.

They are considering changing the uniform policy in order to add an option of a short-sleeve lightweight polo shirt to their daily wear.

The new uniform option would be available for all officers including those with tattoos on their arms.

ECPD acknowledges that some residents may not be in favor of officers displaying tattoos, which is why they are in a testing phase.

They have also asked for the public’s feedback regarding the possible change.

“The majority of the feedback we’ve received has been positive,” said ECPD officer Michael Garcia.

Garcia said officers have been wearing and testing the shirts while patrolling without any issues.

Garcia has been testing out the polo shirt. He said it’s lightweight and it allows more mobility and is cost-effective.

Officers are also testing out rough duty cargo style trousers and vest carriers.

The testing phase for this style of uniform will end next week.

El Centro Police commanders and the police chief will then make a decision to approve or reject the new uniform policy.
