21-year-old woman dies in rollover crash
A 21-year-old woman is dead after being involved in a vehicle rollover that left two others hospitalized in the area of Martinez Lake Road Friday afternoon.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office ( YCSO ) said an initial investigation revealed a red 2002 Ford Explorer SUV was heading westbound on Martinez Lake Road when the vehicle swerved off the roadway and onto the right shoulder. The driver tried to steer back onto the roadway but overcorrected, and lost control of the Explorer. The vehicle ran off the roadway again, overturned, and rolled over. All three passengers were ejected from inside of the vehicle.
YCSO said the 16-year-old driver and a 12-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. The third passenger, 21-year-old Angelica Garcia-Lopez, of Wellton, died at the scene.
Next of kin were notified and the incident remains under investigation. Authorities said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
