YPD warns the community of ongoing phone scams

The Yuma Police Department (YPD) warns the community to not be a victim of phone scams. YPD said they are still receiving reports from the community on phone scams from the Social Security office stating their social security number has been linked to warrants or crimes.

According to YPD, the person who falls for this scam ends up paying the caller with pre-paid Visa cards, Google Pay cards, and Walmart cards.

YPD said do not fall for this scam and be advised that the Social Security office, Yuma Police Department, or Yuma County Sheriff’s Office will not call you to confirm your social security number.

No kind of government organization, to include the above mentioned, will ask you to pay in pre-paid cards. If you get a call and question what the caller is telling you, hang up and call the official number for that organization.
