Local lawyer says President Trump’s deportation threat is unrealistic
President Donald Trump’s recent tweet left people with mixed emotions when he stated that his administration will begin to deport millions of undocumented immigrants who have illegally entered the country next week.
One local immigration lawyer in Yuma said that Trump is not realistic at all.
“Not realistic at all, I mean this was a tweet more dealing with the re-election coming up, it’s just politics,” said Braulio Sanchez, an Immigration Attorney.
Sanchez said that logistics and money does play a tremendous role in mass deportation. He added that a Central American undocumented immigrant cannot be deported back to Mexico or Canada.
“It’s not feasible to do this mass deportation of thousands, again when you are deporting a Mexican citizen things are different because we’re neighbors,” said Sanchez.
Sanchez said that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol Agents can’t raid homes of business without reasonable cause.
“They need reasonable suspicion at least that someone is here illegally or reasonable suspicion that someone is involved in human smuggling or someone that is violating the law of the United States,” said Sanchez.
