Firefighters warn of auto-cleaning function after smoke incident
Firefighters are warning residents of stove auto-cleaning functions after a home became filled with smoke.
According to Somerton Cocopah Fire Department, at 11:47 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to the scene of a home located at West Sellers Street and found smoke coming out of the garage, living room, and windows.
The homeowner was at the scene and told firefighters he had warmed up food that morning and turned the stove off before heading into Yuma. When he returned, he found his home filled with smoke.
Firefighters tracked the smoke’s source and found the oven’s auto-cleaning function turned on, which burned pots and pans that were stored in the oven.
Firefighters advise to use caution when touching the stove’s buttons so that auto clean isn’t accidently turned on.
