Local artist speaks out after mural is damaged

Imagine spending a week painting a mural for the public to enjoy only to find someone has destroyed your hard work.

That is what Lia Littlewood said happened to her and other artists on Main Street in downtown Yuma.

Littlewood and her husband Isaac Russell said this is the second time this has happened in two weeks.

The Yuma Arts Center released video of who they said could be responsible for vandalizing public works of art near the Yuma Arts Center and on the MGM design building.

Lia Littlewood said it is heartbreaking that someone would do this.

“I kind of want to sit down and talk to him to see what he’s thinking because from one artist to another, possibly another artist or just a vandal, it shouldn’t be allowed,” said Lia Littlewood , local artist.

Littlewood woke up early this morning to clean up the graffiti left behind. S he said she does not want the vandal to get credit for the damage they left behind.

Littlewood and Russell are now hoping the person responsible is caught.

If you have any information on who the vandal might be, call the Yuma Police Department or to stay anonymous you can call 78-crime.
