Two men lost in desert rescued by Yuma deputies
Two men who were sick and lost in the desert area of the Foothills were rescued by Yuma County Sheriff deputies Wednesday morning.
Yuma County Sheriff’s Office ( YCSO ) said a search and rescue was conducted Wednesday, June 12 in the desert area, south of the Foothills. Authorities had received a 911 call at about 8:34 a.m. from a man stating that he and another man were sick and lost in the desert.
Deputies responded to the area and searched for the two men in their patrol truck and then moved their search to on foot. The two men were soon located in a wash.
According to deputies, the man that called 911 told them they were coming from Mexico and were lost in the desert for around two days.
The second man was hallucinating and unable to walk, according to YCSO . He was transported to the patrol trucks where a Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue ( BORSTAR ) medic met them shortly after and began treatment.
Both men were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
” Once again this shows the continued risk that these men and women crossing our deserts are willing to take, which in turn puts our deputies at risk–especially during the summer months–to save their lives. Luckily, this incident did not have the tragic ending some others have had over the years. One life tragically lost, no matter where they come from, is one too many, ” Sheriff Leon Wilmot said.
