APS to temporarily stop disconnections for customers behind on payments

Arizona Public Service ( APS ) announced Thursday that any disconnections due to falling behind in payments will be temporarily suspended for residential customers.

APS said it is launching a 30-day review of their disconnection policies where a group of community organizations, limited income customer advocates, and public agencies who will together to explore the best options for customers to stay connected.

This suspension comes after receiving public comments at Arizona Corporation Commission open meetings and conversations with community stakeholders. APS is also considering the 2018 death of a customer who had their electricity disconnected in which heat played a factor.

During this suspension, customers will still be responsible for paying their bills on time. APS is offering assistance programs that include payment arrangements, due date extensions, bill support programs, choosing your own payment due date, auto payment, or enrolling in the Safety Net program which helps with bill reminders.
