Sivyer trial ends in plea agreement

After two days of trial, both the State of Arizona and Ralph Sivyer’s defense team decided to end the trial in a plea agreement.

Sivyer pled guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a prior conviction.

Judge Haws explained to Sivyer he could spend a minimum of three years to a maximum of seven-and-a-half years behind bars.

The trial stemmed from an incident that happened on June 1.

Three Yuma police officers claimed they recognized Sivyer’s car, circled around, and then approached Sivyer . That is when two officers broke Sivyer’s window and the other claimed he went to get a tire deflation device from his glove compartment.

It was revealed during the trial that the two officers, who were trying to get Sivyer out of the car, were bleeding after Sivyer was able to get away from the officers and one of their guns.

During the trial, Sivyer was facing five charges, including two charges of aggravated assault.

His sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
