City officials terminate Somerton parks and rec director

The City of Somerton has moved to terminate its Parks and Recreation director.

City Manager Ian McGaughey said he made the recommendation to terminate Sergio Davalos .

However, the reason for the termination is unknown. The city cannot comment because it is personnel-related, according to McGaughey .

McGaughey added that due to city code the measure had to be approved by the city council. The council voted 6-0 to terminate Davalos May 21.

Parks and Recreation supervisor Rodney Rinehart has since taken on Davalos ‘ former role.

The Parks and Recreation director position is now open and the city will be taking applications until June 7.
