Local teacher inspires children after tragedy
Alli Plaza is a local kindergarten teacher and has been teaching for almost 3 years.
Five years ago, she was diagnosed with juvenile myoclinic epilepsy, which is disease that causes unexpected sporadic seizures.
She was on the way from school to go home when she had a seizure behind the wheel.
Her car was rear-ended and her car hit an electric pole with enough force to shear it off its base.
Throughout the accident, she was blacked out and woke up in the hospital.
Ms. Plaza spent three days at the hospital and spent months recovering.
Today, she continues to be a kindergarten teacher and is loved by many of her students and fellow teachers.
She was recently nominated by teachers under a Yuma dentistry post for a teacher who had a lasting impact on their students.
