Comite De Bien Estar’s dance hall now temporary shelter for asylum-seekers
Comite De Bien Estar’s dance hall is being used as a temporary shelter for about thirty asylum-seeking families. This is all part of the City of San Luis plan of action to help assist these families.
“Families that were waiting in the park also came to the dance hall, so altogether there were around 30 families,” Martina Lopez, a Volunteer at Bien Estar.
These volunteers are working around the clock from sunset to sunrise making sure these families are being taken care of, however, Lopez said they are facing one major challenge.
“Some of these families are not aware of how to buy tickets for airplanes or buses. Some of them are asking us if we can buy it for them or they are asking family members or friends to buy it for them,” said Lopez.
The local non-profit is asking for the community’s help with any donations, you are encouraged to call the main office or visit their website to find out how you can help or become a volunteer.
