Students learn about job fields in Imperial County

Imperial Valley College held their spring career expo today.

More than one-thousand students from local elementaries and high schools were in attendance.

The expo highlights careers and industries that are available to students in the Imperial County.

The dean of economic workforce development, Efrain Silva, says the college has seen a rise in student enrollment, which is a good sign students are choosing to go to college.

Silva says Imperial Valley College offers some of the best programs in the area.

He hopes that when students graduate they keep their talents in the region.

The electrical technology program at Imperial Valley College is one that is proving to be successful for students.

The electrical technology professor says his students are in high demand.

“These are students that are highly required with these talents. We are having a need of electronic technicians in the state of california,” says Ricardo Jimenez, electronics professor.

The electronics department is currently working with a local high school to initiate an electronics program that will allow high school students to earn certificates in the electronics field.

Jimenez says programs like electrical technology, give students the hands on experience they need to be successful in the job market.
