A man suspected of smuggling methamphetamine was apprehended by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents at Highway 86 immigration checkpoint.

According to agents, on April 29, a 24-year-old man drove a Grey Acura to the checkpoint where a canine alerted to the vehicle. Agents then proceeded the car to secondary inspection for further examination.

Agents say they discovered several packages hidden inside natural voids of the vehicle. They determined the substance was consistent with characteristics of methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine discovered by agents weighs 6.73 pounds with a value of 16,000.

Agents say the man, a United States citizen, the methamphetamine, and the vehicle were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Border Crime Suppression Team.
