Yuma Sector: Mother, daughter rescued after jumping into canal
A mother and her five-year-old daughter were rescued by Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents after jumping into a deep water canal and not being able to get out Tuesday night, according to US Customs and Border Protection.
According to CBP, agent Justin Kallinger of the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office said the incident happened shortly before midnight at the Salinity Canal, in the vicinity of 8-1/2E.
Kallinger said agents were able to use a rescue device and pull the woman and her child to safety. Once on shore, agents also assessed them for any potential medical issues.
CBP said the woman and her child were then transported to the Yuma station where they received a full medical evaluation and determined to be in good health.
They were also being processed for being in the country illegally.
