Collision leaves two injuries, DUI arrest
California Highway Patrol said Calexico resident Francisco Carrizosa allegedly struck another vehicle with his car when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at this intersection.
The collision happened on Monday, April 8, around 4:30 p.m.
Authorities said Carrizosa was traveling eastbound on Willoughby west of Dogwood Road in a silver Nissan Versa. The other driver was traveling northbound on Dogwood in a black GMC Terrain. CHP said Carriozosa didn’t stop for a posted stop sign and the front of his Versa collided with the right side of the Terrain.
The collision caused the Terrain to leave the roadway where it came to rest on its wheels facing north on the east shoulder of Dogwood Road. The Versa came to rest on its wheels facing an easterly direction.
Authorities said Carrizosa fled the scene. The driver of the other car sustained injuries including a broken hand.
CHP said thanks to information given by a witness, Carrizosa was stopped by Calexico Police as he entered the city and arrested.
CHP Officer Javier Amezcua said, “The driver is being charged with felony DUI, felony hit and run, and also driving on a suspended license for various other offenses.”
Amezcua said they wanted to thank the witness who took down the license plate number of the fleeing car, called 911 and stayed at the scene offering assistance.
