Yuma firefighters urging residents to be on alert for bees

Yuma firefighters are urging the community to keep an eye out for bees.

In the last two weeks, the Yuma Fire Department reported three incidents that involved encounters with these wild animals.

“These are wild animals and they react instinctively and if you see bees that could be an indication that could be a warning to you,” said Mike Erfert.

Those who work outside in the fields are encouraged to wear light colors and long sleeves to help prevent from being stung but to also make sure that your taking precautions at home.

“Make sure you check for any cracks or holes and remove any debris. They will use those areas to build a hive or to rest,” said Erfert.

Fighting these wild animals is not the answer. Make sure you find a secure spot is important to avoid them as safely as possible.
