Woman sentenced for killing longtime boyfriend after breakup

A Milwaukee woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing her longtime boyfriend after he ended the relationship.

The Journal Sentinel reports that 44-year-old Ann Bellamy broke into the residence of 42-year-old Elandis “Slim” Johnson on New Year’s Eve 2017 and shot him in the eye. His new girlfriend found him dead on the floor about an hour later.

Johnson’s family had sought the maximum term of 40 years in prison. Prosecutors recommended 15 to 20 years as part of a plea agreement because Bellamy had no prior criminal record, a solid work history and had raised four children.

Bellamy was also ordered to serve 10 years of extended supervision and pay Johnson’s family more than $20,000.
