Suspected DUI driver plows car into El Centro home

A man crashed his car into a house in El Centro, and police believe he was under the influence at the time.

The crash happened around 2:16 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 300 block of East Holt Avenue, according to El Centro police.

The driver, 44-year-old Monico Avila, was driving his 1999 Ford F-150 pickup when he smashed through the north bedroom wall of a home, according to El Centro police commander, Aaron Reel. The crash caused major structural damage to the home.

Prior to officers arriving on location, ECPD Dispatch said Avila was last seen walking south from the accident. He was contacted by El Centro police when officers arrived on scene.

According to ECPD, the homeowner was sleeping in bed at the time of the collision. The car struck the headboard of the bed. The homeowner reported no injuries but her dog needed to be taken to a veterinarian for injuries sustained in the collision.

Avila was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Imperial County Jail for DUI offenses.
