YPD receives donation for active shooter kits

The non-profit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, awarded $19,104 to the Yuma Police Department Tuesday.

The grant will pay for 65 active shooter kits, which are new lifesaving equipment used in the event of an active shooter situation in schools.

Yuma police officers, Firehouse Subs Area Representative, and franchisees were in attendance and held a celebratory ceremony that presented how the contributions of Firehouse Subs guests have come full circle in the community.

Each Firehouse Subs restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $2 donation to the foundation.

Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the foundation.
