Car pursuit leaves one suspect behind bars

A car pursuit left one Yuma school on a soft lockdown, according to the Yuma Police Department.

YPD has confirmed Robert Cuen, 33, is in custody.

Police were originally responding to an alleged aggravated assault near 10th Avenue and 13th Street. YPD said Cuen allegedly pointed a handgun at a female victim known to him.

A neighbor said they were approached by officers who asked if he had seen the female victim because she had been kidnapped.

Police claim Cuen led them on a short pursuit that ended near Sanguinetti baseball field once they made contact with him.

The victim was in the vehicle during the time of the chase, according to YPD. They add she reported minor injuries.

Yuma High School was on a soft lockdown for twenty minutes during the pursuit, but it has since been lifted, according to the Yuma Union High School District.

YPD adds the gun was retrieved from the suspect and was reported stolen earlier this year.

Cuen is facing seven felony charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
