Nearly $83,000 worth of meth discovered inside gas tank

Nearly $83,000 worth of methamphetamine was discovered inside a vehicle’s gas tank by Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis Port of Entry Sunday.

According to a press release, officers sent a 26-year-old Yuma woman for additional inspection as she tried to enter the United States Sunday morning. A narcotics detection canine alerted to her Honda sedan which led officers to find packages inside the vehicle’s gas tank.

The drugs weighed about 28 pounds and were estimated to be valued at almost $83,000.

The drugs and vehicle were seized by officers. The woman was arrested and turned to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
