YPD addresses opioids at City Council meeting

The first item on the Y uma City Council agenda was a presentation about opioids by the Y uma Police department.

The issue has hit our entire region, as the “M -30” pills are reported to be circulating not only our streets but inside our schools.

YPD said since N ovember they have seen about seven overdose incidents involving fentanyl with an estimate of four to five of the overdoses involving a minor.

They explained one of the issues they are running into to council.

“We’ve found these kids in schools are experiencing an overdose situation. We’re not able to get much out of them because they were reluctant to disclose their sources. It’s not uncommon in the realm of people taking illicit substances,” said YPD.

YPD added those minors are being sent through the juvenile court system and are facing felony charges.
They added they will begin education in schools beginning at the middle school level.
